Yom Sheni

Yom sheni. Don't let wickedness cause you to sin.
The following is copy/pasted out of my notes in e-sword and for some reason is choppy in the layout probably because of how the verses were inserted. Those who use e-sword will understand. Anyway, I hope this study on evil and wicked will help you in some way. Feel free to comment. It will help us all.

The truth always sets us free. Free from sin. Free from confusion.

This is one of those things that is key to understanding much of Yahweh's word.

If I were to say someone is wicked or evil what does that make you think?

Some will think of Hitler or baby killers or satan worshipers or robbers or any of those bad things that wicked and evil conjure up in our minds.

So if we don't do these types of things we aren't wicked, right? Well let's see.

What does wicked or evil mean in Yahweh's eyes? Is it the same as sin? (We've already learned what sin is)

The first time we see wicked in the KJV is

Gen 13:13 Now the men of Sodom were wicked exceedingly and sinners against Yahweh.

We see it in another form in
Gen 6:5 Then Yahweh saw that the wickedness of man was great on the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.

We see evil way back in Gen 2:9 and 2:17 where it is the same root word as "wicked" in the original language.

The word is "ra" or "ra'ah". Ra'ah is the feminine form.

The same root word is translated as "broken" in KJV or "worthless" in NASB in
Jer 11:16 Yahweh called your name, "A green olive tree, beautiful in fruit and form"; With the noise of a great tumult He has kindled fire on it, And its branches are worthless.

A thorough study of the word and other words using this root will show that the idea is of destroying the original function or designed intent of a thing or person. To move away from the original plan.

An example of the action behind wickedness is a woman with a bowl that is used for mixing bread dough and she takes it up and smashes it on the floor.

We have learned that sin is the breaking of or going against the instructions but wickedness is what leads to or brings about sin.

Another good example is what we have learned about the sabbath. When we moved the sabbath from the seventh day to the first day we were sinning in Yahweh's sight. But if we keep the seventh day and change the design or purpose of the day then we are wicked or evil.

Understanding this will make much of the bible more clear. We can not change Yahweh's design or purpose for things. His word will not change and it will always be the final standard.

2Ch.7:14 If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.

What are some other examples of evil now that we know what it is?

Yahweh's design for man was to glorify Him. But if man glorifies himself by living for himself then he is wicked because he has changed Yahweh's original plan for him.

How about the heart? Yahweh says it is most deceitful and wicked.

Jer 17:9 The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked; who can know it?
Our heart and mind will decieve us. We can't trust our own ways. But there is hope. We have Yahweh's instructions to lean on and trust in.
If we trust Him as a child trusts its father He WILL take care of and protect us. Any suffering He allows is to form and teach us. To strengthen us and exercise our faith. Exercising our faith makes us strong and leaves room for Yahweh's miracles.
Jer 17:7 Blessed is the man who trusts in Jehovah, and Jehovah is his trust.
8. For he shall be like a tree planted by the waters; it sends out its roots by the river, and it shall not fear when the heat comes, but its foliage shall be green; and he is not worried in the year of drought, nor will it cease from yielding fruit.
This should sound familiar. It is also found in Psalms 1
Psa 1:1 How blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked, Nor stand in the path of sinners, Nor sit in the seat of scoffers!
2. But his delight is in the law of the LORD, And in His law he meditates day and night.
3. He will be like a tree firmly planted by streams of water, Which yields its fruit in its season And its leaf does not wither; And in whatever he does, he prospers.
4. The wicked are not so, But they are like chaff which the wind drives away.
5. Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment, Nor sinners in the assembly of the righteous.
6. For the LORD knows the way of the righteous, But the way of the wicked will perish.
Now we know why we see "wicked" and "sinner" used in the same verses.
